Villa Cavaleri is a luxurious retreat nestled at the heart of a rolling Tuscan winery estate. The clients — a family with deep ties to the region's winemaking culture — envisioned a home that would honour centuries of Tuscan architectural tradition while accommodating the demands of contemporary luxury living and regular large-scale entertaining.
Discuss a Similar ProjectThe existing farmhouse structure was a protected heritage building, prohibiting significant external alteration. All contemporary interventions had to be concealed, reversible, or integrated with extraordinary sensitivity. Meanwhile, the brief demanded a kitchen capable of catering for 80 guests, a 25-metre lap pool, a private cinema, and six en-suite bedrooms — all within a structure of restrained historic character.
We adopted a strategy of 'invisible luxury' — locating all programme extensions below grade in a new basement level and within sensitively restored outbuildings. The main house was stripped back to original stonework and timber, with contemporary services concealed within reconfigured walls. The result is a home that reads as wholly historic from the landscape, yet offers every modern comfort its owners require.
